The Coming of the Holy Spirit - the Feast of Pentecost (5th June 2022)

See the source image

As we draw to the end of the season of Eastertide, we give thanks and praise for the sacrifice made by Jesus and his joyful resurrection.  In our Gospel assemblies this half term we have been continuing our virtual pilgrimage, visiting Santiago de Compostela and listening to the story of some pilgrims as they make that special journey to visit the resting place of Saint James.

In the story of the first Pentecost (Acts 2:1-8) the crowd hears the disciples speaking in their own languages. The coming of the Holy Spirit reminds us that we are all connected, even though we speak different languages, we are one global family. We thank God for his gift of worldwide community.

The Holy Spirit is often compared to the wind. When the wind blows, the windmill spins. We cannot see the wind, but we can see what a difference it makes. We cannot see the Holy Spirit either. But the Holy Spirit brought great change and transformation to the lives of the first disciples and continues to do so for us today. The Holy Spirit gives us courage to make the world a better place.

Living with Covid Guidance

On Tuesday 29th March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1st April.

Free COVID-19 tests will continue to be available for specific groups, including eligible patients and NHS staff, once the universal testing offer ends on Friday 1st April.

Updated guidance will advise:

·         adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature

·         children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend

·         adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1st April:

·         regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children's social care settings. Therefore, settings will no longer be able to order test kits

·         residential SEND settings may be advised by their local health protection team to re-introduce some time-limited asymptomatic testing. This would be an exceptional measure, for targeted groups of staff and pupils or students (secondary age or above) in the event of a possible COVID-19 outbreak. These settings are scheduled to receive an automatic delivery of contingency supply test kits during the week commencing Monday 28 March

·         the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will publish new guidance. Most of the specific COVID-19 guidance for education and childcare settings will be withdrawn from GOV.UK on Friday 1 April. The operational guidance on the testing in education settings document sharing platform will also be removed on the same day.

Almighty God, we pray, that your servant Elizabeth, our Queen, who, by your providence has received the governance of this realm, may continue to grow in every virtue, that, imbued with your heavenly grace, she may be preserved from all that is harmful and eviland, being blessed with your favourmay, with the royal family, come at last into your presence, through Christ who is the way, the truth and the lifeand who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Virtues Focus - Grateful and Generous

Children at St. Joseph's are growing to be grateful for their own gifts, for the gift of
other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with their gifts, becoming men and women for others.

For faith-filled young people

We pray for all young people, called to live life to the fullest; may they see in Mary’s life the way to listen, the depth of discernment, the courage that faith generates, and the dedication to service.
