The Gift of Wisdom

In this Sunday's Gospel we hear about the parable of the bridesmaids. Five were wise and sensible, whereas, the other five were foolish and unprepared. The wise bridesmaids' brightly lit lamps - filled with oil - can remind us of the light the bridesmaids brought into the world through their faith and good works. The bridegroom represents Jesus and the wedding feast represents the kingdom of God. Because of their wisdom, the five sensible bridesmaids prepared well for the wedding and experienced all the joys of the wedding feast, that is for us, the joys of the kingdom of heaven.

Remembrance Sunday

A reminder that the Year 3 First Holy Communion Enrolment Mass will take place this coming Sunday at 10.30am. There will also be a Service of Remembrance at the Stourbridge War Memorial in Mary Steven's Park too. Please meet at 10.30am.

Anti-Bullying Week - All Different, All Equal

Next week is National Anti-Bullying Week. This year's theme is a useful reminder that we are all unique, created in the image and likeness of Christ. Through our Catholic virtues, Gospel values and School Rights the children are reminded about treating each other with respect. The children will learn about the importance of feeling valued and will also empower them to celebrate what makes them unique. For further information please go to the Anti-Bullying Alliance website at www.antibullyingalliance.org.uk.

Odd Sock Day - Anti-Bullying Week

On Monday we would like all the children to take part in 'Odd Socks Day' for Anti-Bullying Week. The children simply need to wear an odd pair of socks to school. The message to children is: be proud of who you are and be accepting of one another. Andy Day is undoubtedly one of the most popular children's personalities in the UK and widely known for his antics tackling dinosaurs, investigating baby animals and being on safari. He is the ambassador of the Anti-Bullying Alliance.

Spread reading around for just a pound

Abooku is a UK based educational charity which has developed, with Gambia co-operation and support, The Baobab Reading Scheme. As a school we have decided to support this charity and help supply Gambian children with the books they need to help them to read. The 'Spread reading around for just a pound' campaign supports children in Gambian schools by providing each child with a complete set of their own reading materials. These have been developed by Abooku in partnership with Gambian educators. As part of this campaign, we would like to invite your child to purchase a special edition of 'Fatou's First Day' a storybook about The Gambia for just £1. Many schools in Dudley and across the West Midlands have supported this worthy cause. Please support this campaign by bringing £1 in to school on Monday so that we can contribute to the target of helping 4000 Gambian children have access to essential reading materials. The children will learn more about this campaign at the whole-school assembly on Monday morning. Thank you for your continued support.

Virtues Focus - Autumn term 2

Children in St. Joseph's School are growing to be learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.

Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for all our blessings and gifts. Please help us to grow in humility - to be humble and loving in all that we do and say. Amen.

Football Team Fixture

Congratulations to the school football team who played a friendly 9-a-side fixture against Wollescote School yesterday. After an initial ten minutes of a closely competitive game the children broke the deadlock and scored two goals in the final five minutes before half time. Their performance in the second half showed great promise for the season ahead. The children played very well collectively and managed to score a further five goals to finish the game 7 - 0 winners. Well done!
