Good morning Year 5!

THANK YOU so much for working so hard last week!

Your work is organised into the days of the week below.

Please try your best to have a look at the Maths and English lessons at a minimum for each day of the week. Remember: you choose your challenge. If you want to do a few questions or ALL of them, that's fine.

We all work at different levels, speeds and abilities. You just work to the best of yours!

Afternoon sessions are there on the days we would usually do them in school but you can do them in any order if you want.

Keep an eye out for some videos from me too! The links will be in the lesson presentations.

Don't forget to scroll to the end of the page to see some extra projects and activities like the Year of the Word, Times Tables/Mental Maths websites and the Black Country Rainbow Hour Book.

If you find that you are finishing all of the work set, there are other websites at the bottom of the page if you want to do some extra work yourself by taking responsibilty of your own learning. :-)

You can send me work or questions you may have to the Year 5 mailbox: year5@st-jo-st.dudley.sch.uk

I promise I am looking at everything that is coming in but I might not reply to each of your emails. I will try and respond once a week at a minimum!

Please have a look on Education City and complete the Times Tables tasks. Some of them you can only play on a laptop/computer but most of them are tablet versions. Make sure you turn your device landscape.

English - Reading

Text extract - Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
Chapter One

I would like you to read the given extract in the presentation. (It will bring you to the Love Reading 4 Kids website again).

Complete the activities given in the lesson presentation.

Other Reading Activities this week

-Ask your child to read a chapter from their home reading book.

-Following this, ask your child to summarise the events from the chapter. They could bullet point what happened, create a comic strip or present the information in their own creative way.

-Encourage your child to note down any unfamiliar words from the chapter they have read. Explore the meanings of these words by using a dictionary, reading around the sentence or using print conventions.

-Challenge your child to read something around the house that isn't a book. They can then keep a record of all these.

The God who Speaks - Year of the Word

Whole School Project

Please use this PowerPoint to use as a family for the Month of January to mark the New Year. The aim of the Year of the Word is to be a special year of focus on the Bible. During this year we are called to explore and celebrate the Word of God through the Scriptures, share the Word with others and respond to the "God who speaks" in the way that we live.

The focus is St. Mark's Gospel, but you can read any passage you wish! The Wednesday Word is an instant way to share Scripture and the meaning together each week.

Please use the slideshow below together, read the Bible, discuss the message and maybe how we can use it in our own lives. It's up to you if you want to share a Bible story every day or once a week. There are also activity ideas for you to complete also!

There is a link to the CAFOD website that has lots of extra resources for children that you can use for the Year of the Word too!

EXTRA LEARNING

If you are managing to finish all the set work for the week, here are some extra websites for more challenges/lessons/projects if you want to. Feel free to do your own and take responsibility for your own learning. Don't forget you have your Education City Logins and you can free play through the subjects without me setting any. Hope these websites help a little bit!
