Dear Parents

I hope that you have all had a lovely week. As ever, it has been a busy, fun and productive week in school with lots taking place. Please read on for information around the Jubilee celebration assembly, Maths Week England, the Year 3 trip to Red House Glass Cone and a beautiful KS2 Mass. Unfortunately, there still remains some illness across school – the autumn virus that has hit us has been very unpleasant. I hope that over the weekend this subsides somewhat and that our attendance will return to close to 100% next week. Please do send your child in with a coat as the weather has certainly turned chillier.

St Joseph’s School Video!

We are delighted to share with you the final video of our school that was filmed last month. I hope that you are as proud of the final version as we are! A number of photographs were taken during filming, some of which you may have noticed in recent newsletters – with more to share soon. Please do share the new video far and wide and show just how proud we are of our wonderful school!

Maths Week England

Maths Week has been another great success! The children had so much fun looking at maths in different ways and realising its importance in every day life. Some children did maths through art, stories, fun and different activities even doing magic through maths! We had our Times Tables Rock Stars "England Rocks" competition. Class results will come on Monday! We had parents tell us all about how to they use maths in their daily lives and jobs, maths homework menus were sent home - please do send in any extra things you did at home too! The estimation station has been on the playground - winner to be announced next week too! Thank you to all who supported and helped out this week!

Year 3 visit to Red House Glass Cone

Year 3 children had the most fabulous day of learning at the Red House Glass Cone on Thursday. They explored the cone, took part in a glass fusing workshop and created colourful cases and a marble run. A wonderful day of history, art and DT!

KS2 Mass

We celebrated a beautiful KS2 mass this week with Father Philip. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who joined us. The gospel reading was The Parable of the Talents and Father Philip asked us to think about how we can use our gifts and talents to help others.

Jubilee Final Celebration Assembly with the Diocese

We joined together for a live assembly with all of the schools in the Birmingham Diocese to celebrate the Year of Hope and reflect on our next steps in living out the mission of hope and making a fairer and brighter world for everyone. Each class made bunting to decorate the hall and have enjoyed activities in their classroom, including writing postcards of hope and creating a Jubilee Reflection Journal.

RB Sports – Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls football club

Parents in Year 5 and Year 6 will have today received an email regarding a new after school football club in for Year 5 and Year 6 led by our sports coach from RB sports, Mr Elliott. The club will run from next week until Christmas and will then start again in the spring. This club will be free of charge.

Attendance

A very nasty virus has really impacted on our attendance in school over the last two weeks. I hope that the children are now feeling better and over the worst of this and we see an upturn in our attendance back to our usual excellent standard next week.
