Being Discerning

See the source image

Well done to all our children for completing their first full week back at school.  It was wonderful to celebrate our first school Mass together as a community with Fr. Philip on Wednesday too.  We thank God for this new school year and all the opportunities and experiences it will bring to our children.  We also thank our parents for their continued support and look forward to working in partnership together in the year ahead.

While on earth, we are given ‘free will’ and God our Father trusts us to use it wisely. There may be times when we make a wrong choice, but we can trust that God is always there to help us start again. This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us about the value of being trustworthy people. We can show this by making good choices – especially when it comes to the use of money. When we give God first place in our lives – using our talents, our time and our money to serve God – we are blessed here and now, and can be certain that we will be rewarded in the life to come too.

As a school we have also reviewed our behaviour management procedures and policy in response to the latest Government guidance and also by introducing a new pedagogical approach.  Please read the school's behaviour and other safeguarding related policies which are now available to view on the school website.

This coming Sunday is also 'Home Mission Sunday'. This is a special day in the Church’s calendar when we are especially invited to pray for, support and celebrate the work of the Church in England and Wales. Find out more at cbcew.org.uk

Please read the Press Release below regarding the fantastic news about St. Joseph's School Games Mark Award for 2021-22. Thank you to all staff, volunteers and external providers who have supported the provision of Physical Activity, PE and School Sport last academic year.

We are delighted to announce that we, St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in
2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our physical activity and school sport achievements this year include:
Being the Lead School in Dudley for the Commonwealth Connections Project
Designated as an ambassador school for the Walk to School programme (Living Streets)
Daily Out of School Hour Learning opportunities before school, at lunchtime and after school
Participation in School Games events across the school year
Establishing pupil leadership - Sports Captains and Deputies as well as the Rainbow Warriors
Celebrating National School Sports Week - School Games Day and Daily Challenges
Promoting daily Active Travel (Walk to School programme)

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:
Mrs K Jones (School Games Organiser), Mr L Philpotts (School Games Organiser), our PE Lead Mr A Carry and staff and volunteers from St. Joseph's and other external organisations.

We look forward to applying once again in 2023!

PE Days - Autumn 1 2022

See the source image

Please make a note of the days when your child/ren will have PE in school this half term.  We are continuing to allow children to come into school wearing their PE kit along with their school jumper and blue or grey tracksuit bottoms.  This enables teachers and children to spend more time being physically active during lessons but also reduces the need for bringing into school additional bags etc. We are following the best practice in Physical Education in terms of enabling children to be more physically active for more sustained periods of time in lessons.  The approach introduced by Newman University in Birmingham focuses on the 'SHARP' principles.  If you would like further information, then please contact the school office.

Living with Covid Guidance

On Tuesday 29th March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1st April.

Free COVID-19 tests will continue to be available for specific groups, including eligible patients and NHS staff, once the universal testing offer ends on Friday 1st April.

Updated guidance will advise:

·         adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature

·         children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend

·         adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1st April:

·         regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children's social care settings. Therefore, settings will no longer be able to order test kits

·         residential SEND settings may be advised by their local health protection team to re-introduce some time-limited asymptomatic testing. This would be an exceptional measure, for targeted groups of staff and pupils or students (secondary age or above) in the event of a possible COVID-19 outbreak. These settings are scheduled to receive an automatic delivery of contingency supply test kits during the week commencing Monday 28 March

·         the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will publish new guidance. Most of the specific COVID-19 guidance for education and childcare settings will be withdrawn from GOV.UK on Friday 1 April. The operational guidance on the testing in education settings document sharing platform will also be removed on the same day.
