Fabulous Feedback from Mrs Hickman!
Watch this video for some whole class verbal feedback. (They will usually be shorter! This is just the first one and I covered things over the last 2 weeks)
Good morning Year 5!
THANK YOU so much for working so hard last week! I have loved seeing your final pieces of writing. They were great. Please watch my feedback video of your examples of work and also to talk about some common misconceptions I saw!
Your work is organised into the days of the week below, as before.
Please try your best to have a look at the Maths and English lessons at a minimum for each day of the week. Remember: you choose your challenge. If you want to do a few questions or ALL of them, that's fine.
We all work at different levels, speeds and abilities. You just work to the best of yours!
Afternoon sessions are there on the days we would usually do them in school but you can do them in any order if you want.
Morning messages are there with the instructions for the day.
Don't forget to scroll to the end of the page to see some extra projects and activities like the Year of the Word, Times Tables/Mental Maths websites.
If you find that you are finishing all of the work set, there are other websites at the bottom of the page if you want to do some extra work yourself by taking responsibilty of your own learning. :-)
You can send me work or questions you may have to the Year 5 mailbox: year5@st-jo-st.dudley.sch.uk
I promise I am looking at everything that is coming in but I might not reply to each of your individual emails that you send during the week but I will try and respond once a week at a minimum!
(These are best viewed on a laptop/PC. They don't work well on mobiles unless you copy the link and open in the internet browser on your mobile)

Other Reading Activities this week
-Ask your child to read a chapter from their home reading book.
-Following this, ask your child to summarise the events from the chapter. They could bullet point what happened, create a comic strip or present the information in their own creative way.
-Encourage your child to note down any unfamiliar words from the chapter they have read. Explore the meanings of these words by using a dictionary, reading around the sentence or using print conventions.
-Challenge your child to read something around the house that isn't a book. They can then keep a record of all these.

NEW Topic - Parables and Sayings of Jesus
Lesson - Know that Jesus taught his disciples about God’s Kingdom through parables and sayings.
Hopefully by the end of the unit you will know some important Parables and Sayings of Jesus. The Kingdom of God was part of the language Jesus used to explain his preaching about welcoming and accepting God’s presence through him.
This week, I would like you to read through the presentation and then research 3 or 4 parables (you already know a few!)
As your main task, I would like you to summarise the story and then explain what you think the message might be. I have given you an example to help you get started in the presentation.
There is an optional challenge question to complete also at the end of the lesson.
Challenge: How do you think people responded when they saw/ heard Jesus teaching His parables?
Art
Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the work of artists who use very ordinary objects and materials to make exciting and imaginative pieces of artwork.
This week, we're going to take inspiration from Swiss artist and comedian Ursus Wehrli.

The God who Speaks - Year of the Word
Whole School Project
Please use this PowerPoint to use as a family for the Month of January to mark the New Year. The aim of the Year of the Word is to be a special year of focus on the Bible. During this year we are called to explore and celebrate the Word of God through the Scriptures, share the Word with others and respond to the "God who speaks" in the way that we live.
The focus is St. Mark's Gospel, but you can read any passage you wish! The Wednesday Word is an instant way to share Scripture and the meaning together each week.
Please use the slideshow below together, read the Bible, discuss the message and maybe how we can use it in our own lives. It's up to you if you want to share a Bible story every day or once a week. There are also activity ideas for you to complete also!
There is a link to the CAFOD website that has lots of extra resources for children that you can use for the Year of the Word too!
EXTRA LEARNING
If you are managing to finish all the set work for the week, here are some extra websites for more challenges/lessons/projects if you want to. Feel free to do your own and take responsibility for your own learning. Don't forget you have your Education City Logins and you can free play through the subjects without me setting any.
