Hello Year 6! I hope you had a great half-term!

You are all fantastic at home learning now and know what to expect.  We are starting lots of new topics this week so I know you are going to have lots of fun!

Please try your best to have a look at the Maths and English lessons at a minimum for each day of the week. Remember: you choose your challenge. If you want to do a few questions or ALL of them, that's fine.

Like last half term, I will put a video on the home learning page to explain what the lessons are for the day.  Please don't worry if you don't finish all of them.  All I ask is that you do your best!  You're all super stars and I'm very proud of all you are doing.

Afternoon sessions are on there the same as before half term but you can do them in any order if you want.

Don't forget to scroll to the end of the page to see some extra projects and activities like Times Tables/Mental Maths websites and other extra learning websites too!

You can send me work or questions you may have to the Year 6 mailbox: year6@st-jo-st.dudley.sch.uk

I promise I am looking at everything that is coming in but I might not reply to each of your lovely individual emails that you send during the week but I will try and respond once a week at a minimum

Why not take a moment in the day to share a prayer with your family, friends or by yourself, especially during the season of Lent. Have a look at the document to guide you through.

You could also write your own Lenten promise

Hello Year 6,

This week in Maths we are continuing with our topic on decimals. I've included the White Rose support video to help you.  Don't pause the video half-way through when it says.  Let it play all the way through like we sometimes do in class :-)

Please try and complete the first sheet on each day and if you feel confident try the challenge question :-) I've also included the answers so you can mark your work like we do in class.  All of the work for the week is on the power point below.  Please remember not to worry if you're unable to fully complete, we will revise all of these topics when we return to school.

The same as last week, there is a power point for you to follow and the booklet is attached below.

Everyday I will let you know in my video which activties I'd like you to complete.  So please listen carefully!

Monsters

Monday 22nd February - Activity 8 - Planning

It's time to plan your explanation text on your swamp monster.  Look at the table on page 14 and use the titles to help you plan your text. You don't just have to use habitat, appearance and diet.  You can add your own ideas for paragraphs also. Remember to look at your ideas from activity 6 to help you.

Tuesday 23rd February - Activity 9 - Talk plan through

Read your ideas from activity 8 to a member of your family.  This will help you to make sure it makes sense.  Ask if they have any suggestions to improve it.

Reading, Punctuation and Grammar Activities

Please look at the power points below and choose an activity from the reading and the punctuation and grammar section to complete each day.

I have also attached a separate power point with extra SPAG actvities this week.  Take a look and try if you'd like!

Other Reading Activities this week

-Ask your child to read a chapter from their home reading book.

-Following this, ask your child to summarise the events from the chapter. They could bullet point what happened, create a comic strip or present the information in their own creative way.

-Encourage your child to note down any unfamiliar words from the chapter they have read. Explore the meanings of these words by using a dictionary, reading around the sentence or using print conventions.

-Challenge your child to read something around the house that isn't a book. They can then keep a record of all these.
